REQM Silver Award

This term our topic is 'Turrets and Tiaras'. In English we will be looking at traditional tales, and we will also focus on writing non-fiction texts about dragons. In history, we will learn about castles, and we will also look at kings and queens. For geography, we will learn about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, and the capital cities of these countries. In art we will be using clay to create our own castle models, and in DT we will be making glove puppets of characters from traditional tales. For science, we will be learning about materials and their properties, which will lead us onto finding the best material for a castle roof.

Miss Maleski is the teacher in Year 1.  She is supported in class by Mrs Hendrey.

Our topic this term is Our Local Area. We will be learning about the characteristics of our surroundings and start to consider some of the issues and changes within the community. Tying in with this, in DT, we will be looking at how we could improve our local area by making a new piece of equipment for the playground. The children will be looking at plants in science, as well as starting to look at weather and the changes that occur each season. In art, we will be looking at how elements of plants and nature are represented by different artists, such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Andy Goldsworthy.

In maths recently we have been practising putting numbers into the right order. Earlier this term, we learnt about our local park. We designed and made models of new pieces of play equipment that we'd like in our park.
