Our topic this term is 'The Seaside'. In English, we will be looking at different stories that are set at the seaside. We will also look at writing letters, instructions, and non-fiction texts about animals. Our science focus this term is animals, and we will be identifying and classifying a range of animals, and looking at different ways we could sort them. We will also learn about looking after different animals. Our focus for history will be the seaside now and in the past, and how seaside holidays and activities have changed over time. We will also look at the life of Grace Darling. In geography, children will learn to use some geographical vocabulary to describe coastal features, and compare a seaside town to Hackleton. We will also look at where we go on holiday.

Mrs Mills is the teacher in Year 1.  She is supported in class by Mrs Hendrey.

Our topic this term is Our Local Area. We will be learning about the characteristics of our surroundings and start to consider some of the issues and changes within the community. Tying in with this, in DT, we will be looking at how we could improve our local area by making a new piece of equipment for the playground. The children will be looking at plants in science, as well as starting to look at weather and the changes that occur each season. In art, we will be looking at how elements of plants and nature are represented by different artists, such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Andy Goldsworthy.

In maths recently we have been practising putting numbers into the right order. Earlier this term, we learnt about our local park. We designed and made models of new pieces of play equipment that we'd like in our park.
