REQM Silver Award

Welcome back and a Happy New Year!

Our topic this term will be ‘The United Kingdom’. In geography we will be looking into what countries make up the United Kingdom along with the seas and oceans surrounding it. In history we will be learning about our monarch.

Once again, if your child has anything of interest relating to our topic please bring this into school for them to share with the class. The children really enjoyed sharing things about our science topic last term and it was lovely to see them so interested in plants.

In English we will be reading alternative fairy tales and we will begin to start writing our own version of them. We will also compare the characters in the original stories and the alternative stories.

Our science focus this term is materials and we will be identifying and classifying different types of materials. We will be conducting experiments to find waterproof and transparent materials.

Other useful information:

P.E. kits: Our P.E. day is still Thursday so please ensure that children have a named kit in school every day and that earrings are removed for P.E.

Reading Books: Please use reading records to note each time reading takes place at home. Children are awarded a merit every time they read 5 times a week at home so please do write it down when you read with them! If your child comes home with a book they have already read please re-read with them and ask them a variety of questions about the content. Please feel free to read other books at home too.
Homework diaries will be collected in on Monday morning.

Word cards: Children will still be given word cards to take home for you to go over with them. It would be great if you could practise reading and writing these words in sentences.

Home/School Communication: If you need to get in contact for any reason, please email the school office and I will respond to your message as soon as I can. I will also be available in the playground after school most days so if you do need to talk to me in person please don’t hesitate to catch me at this time.

Our topic this term will be ‘Our Local Area’ which will be broken down in to looking at our local area today in geography and what our local area was like in the past in history. We will be looking at maps and creating our own maps of the village. We will be going for a walk around the village to look at points of interest and marking these on our own maps.

Our history topic will begin after the October half term. If your child has anything of interest relating to our topic please bring this into school for them to share with the class.

In English we will be reading The Jolly Postman and the work will be related to this book. We will be learning how to write letters, instructions, postcards and we will be doing lots of work on our handwriting.
