REQM Silver Award

We have a busy year ahead of us...

For this term, up until half term, our curriculum topic “What was the best role for a Viking?” looks into who the Vikings were and the variety of roles a Viking might have had. After half term, our topic looks into maps and mapping in which we will be learning to read and plot maps using 4 and 6 figure grid references, longitude and latitude. Our science topics will look at Earth and Space and Forces.

A few things that are useful to know:

  • Homework- as part of our homework expectations, the children should be reading 5 times a week. This will need to be logged in the homework diary, signed by an adult at home and will then be checked every Monday in school. Additionally, the children are expected to practise spellings for at least 30 minutes per week and practising their multiplication facts on TT Rockstars through completing the session set online. They will receive one set task, this may be English or maths which will be given out and handed in on a Monday.
  • Spelling tests- the children will be studying a spelling pattern at school for four weeks with a new list of words that follow these patterns each week. The four weeks will finish with a spelling test. Each week the children will be expected to practise the spelling list which will be given out each Monday. Children will also have end of term tests covering the patterns they have looked at over the previous term.
  • Mental Maths- the children will complete a multiplication grid challenge each week on a Friday to improve their speed with multiplication facts. If possible, please also encourage your child to practise these at home.
  • Reading- the children will have guided reading sessions during the week, which will involve practising reading comprehension. There will also be opportunities to read their own book every day so is vital that they always have a reading book with them at school- this can be a book from home or the school library.
  • PE- up until half term, the children’s PE lesson will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. After half term, their lesson will take place on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has a full, named PE kit in school on this day. Including hair bands for long hair, socks, if your children wears tights to school, and jogging bottoms for when the weather gets colder.
