REQM Silver Award

In our science lesson, we looked at the distance between each planet and the sun. We scaled our solar system using ratio and proportion and toilet paper so that it would fit in our classroom. Each square represented 50,000,000 miles!

In our RE lessons, we are currently learning about Hinduism. To help our learning, we visited BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in London. We toured through the exhibition and found out about the history of the religion as well as watching an Arti ceremony. The day we visited was Ganesh’s birthday, so it was a very special day; lots of people were making offerings.

In year 5, our history topic for this term is “What was the best role for a Viking?” For this we will be looking into who the Vikings are, where they came from and where they settled. We will be considering which of their roles would be best to have- will it be a courageous warrior in Lindisfarne, an expert craftsman, a reckless explorer or a royal leader?

In science, we have been focusing on Earth and Space. We will look be looking at the distance between the sun and the planets, phases of the moon, how rotations and orbits cause day and night and winter and summer and much more.

Miss Beecroft is the teacher in Year 5.  She is supported in class by Mrs Turton and Mrs Macauley.
