REQM Silver Award

Our topic this term will be ‘Growing’. We will continue to look at our bodies and how we grow, whilst also finding out about how animals and plants change over time. We will spend a lot of time out in our vegetable garden, planting and growing lots of tasty vegetables and fruits as part of our topic on healthy eating. We will also be hatching our own chicks using an incubator, and watching how they grow.

Our topic this term is Once Upon a Time. We will explore a range of traditional tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears as well as finding out about dinosaurs and space adventures. We have started a new research-based enquiry which will change each week according to the book we are reading. The class will come up with a question and use the internet alongside books from our reference library to find the answers. We will also be starting guided reading sessions with Mrs Revens which I know will be a hit because of the children's love of books. Please keep reading wonderful stories at home! We will be continuing with Welly Wednesday each week and on Tuesdays we will have our PE lessons.

Mrs Vernon is the teacher in Reception class.  She is supported in class by Mrs Oliver and Miss Henderson.

Our topic this term is All About Me. The children absolutely loved sharing their All About Me bags that they had put together over the summer. We found a lot out about where the children have been on holiday, who is in their family and what their likes and dislikes are. We enjoyed measuring how tall we were and comparing different heights to see who the tallest person in the class is. We had a very interesting trip to the Life Bus too and found out about different types of food that will give us energy and help us grow, we even got to meet Harold the giraffe!

For Harvest we made our own bread, just like the Little Red Hen and learnt all about how yeast works to make the dough grow. We all took some dough home to cook and loved our delicious bread rolls.

On Friday the children held a picnic for their teddy bears. Leading up to this, the children had made and decorated cakes after carefully measuring out the ingredients. They had also written invitations to their teddy bears and on Friday morning they made sandwiches to eat at the picnic.

On Monday 13th November the class are taking a trip to Holdenby House to find Stick Man in the woods followed by a campfire with hot chocolate and marshmallows. We are very excited!!

We had a wonderful trip to the woods at Holdenby House on Monday. We found Stick Man, his family and the family tree in the woods before making our very own stick men/women/children to bring home. After lunch we had a campfire and made hot chocolate and popcorn on it. The popcorn was trying to escape and some popped straight out of the pan. Our favourite part was toasting marshmallows!
