At Hackleton CEVA Primary School, we aim to provide all pupils with a science education that enables them to explore and discover the world around them, fostering a curiosity and fascination about our universe and preparing them for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world.
Our spiral knowledge-based curriculum, based on White Rose Science, builds upon previous knowledge and sets foundations for future learning. The schemes of learning not only provide full coverage of the national curriculum for science, but they also cover scientific questions around sustainability and the planet, and help children develop an empathy for the local and wider environment.
Through this curriculum which involves experiment, practice and discussion, children gain core knowledge around:
- Scientific vocabulary
- ‘Working scientifically’ skills including systematic and careful observations and following practical scientific methods
- The gathering and interpretation of straightforward scientific evidence
- The use of everyday materials and scientific equipment to solve science problems
- Articulating scientific concepts and using five types of science enquiries
The objectives for Science in KS1 and KS2 are clearly set out for each year group in the National Curriculum which can be found by clicking the link below.
