Pupil Premium & Service Children Funding
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium funding is money that has been allocated to schools by the government for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families, for supporting children with parents in the regular armed forces, as well as those currently, or who have ever been, in Local Authority care.
Funding is allocated to children who are currently on Free School Meals (FSM) or have been on FSM at any time over the last six years.
Why was it introduced?
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who most need it. Whilst schools are allowed to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, the government requires that a report of how the Pupil Premium has been spent, including the impact of that expenditure, is produced by the school.

PE & Sports Premium Funding
What is the Sports Premium?
In April 2013 the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and Sport, often referred to as the Sports Premium. This funding was to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision.
When asked about the ‘Sports Premium’ at its launch, then Chair of the British Olympics Association, Lord Coe reflected: “When I stood up in Singapore in 2005, I spoke of London’s vision to connect young people with the inspirational power of the [Olympic] Games so they are inspired to choose sport. By focussing on primary schools, we have the opportunity to use sport and physical activity to shape the daily lives of young people. I know from my own experience what an impact teachers and their engagement can have on the lives of young people.”
Purpose of funding
Schools have continued to receive the Sports Premium on an annual basis. The purpose is to improve provision of PE and sport, with schools having the freedom to choose how this is to be done.
To find out how we use the Sports Premium funding to improve the quality of PE and sport we offer, please see the reports below.
